SafeSign Identity Client for Adobe Acrobat Pro

Secure your PDF using smartcards or USB tokens

Adobe Acrobat Pro

Adobe Acrobat Pro helps to protect documents and accelerate information exchange with PDF. It contains several security features using certificates:

Sign a PDF
Signing a PDF indicates approval. A PDF can be signed more than once and by more than one person. If a document is signed, the digital signature appears in the signature field.

Certify with signature
When a PDF is certified, it indicates that the user approves of its contents. Only the first person to sign a PDF (most often, the author) can add a certifying signature. Certifying with a digital signature confirms the identity of the sender and protects the document from being tampered with.

Verify a signature
By default, signatures are validated when a PDF is opened. An icon appears in the signature field on the document page to indicate the signature status.

Encrypt with certificate
Encryption protects a document so that only the recipients can view it. A user can specify the document components to encrypt and the level of encryption, set permissions for printing & editing and list the recipients.

For signing and encryption a digital certificate is needed.

SafeSign IC & Adobe Acrobat Pro

The certificate should be kept private. To securely store the certificate a smart card or USB token is used, in combination with SafeSign Identity Client middleware to function as a bridge between the certificate and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

SafeSign IC enforces two- or multi factor security, requiring the end user
to have both the USB token or smart card (something you have) and a Personal Identity Number (something you know) or even biometrics. USB tokens and smart cards are physically and logically tamper-resistant, ensuring that the end user’s digital credentials can not be copied, modified or shared. Authentication based on smart cards or USB tokens provides the highest degree of security.
