Smartcards: Multifunctional flexible security

Smart cards are very efficient and flexible security solutions. Smart cards, or microprocessor cards, have their own operating system and cryptographic functionality. This makes them the ideal solution for the protection of IT systems and other assets.

Smart cards are mostly used to provide strong, multi-factor authentication. In addition to a PIN code cards can be equipped with biometric functions, leading to an even higher level of security.

Smart cards can also be used for digital signatures, time registration, payment functions, physical access, employee ID card, and more. They are available as contact cards, contactless cards, or hybrid / dual interface cards that combine both.

Smart card chips can even be used in USB tokens or SIM form factor, for even more flexibility.

Smart card operating systems

The AET products SafeSign Identity Client and BlueX Digital ID Management support a wide range of smart cards and USB tokens. They support smart cards and tokens with Java Card™ OS 2.1.1/2.2+ or proprietary card OS like STARCOS®, Multos, TCOS or CardOS. Smart cards with Java Card Operating Platforms (JCOP) are generally more flexible since they support Java applets, enhancing the functions of the card.

AET can help you select the best token for your purposes, and even delivers some of the most used tokens in bundles with their software. See our promotions for more information on the bundles with a SafeSign IC JCOP41 smart card, Marx CrypToken MX2048-JCOP or Weneo USB token with flash memory.

SafeSign IC JCOP smart card

The JCOP smart card contains a NXP SmartMX chip. It is a Secure Double or Triple Interface PKI Smart Card Controller featuring 160 Kbytes of ROM, 4608 bytes of RAM and 72 Kbytes of EEPROM, which can be used as data memory and as program memory. It has:
  • 72 Kbytes EEPROM
  • 160 KBytes User ROM
  • 4608 bytes RAM
  • PKI co-processor (RSA, ECC)
  • Dual/Triple key DES-3 co-processor
  • AES co-processor
  • ISO/IEC 7816 contact interface
  • ISO/IEC 14443A contactless interface (optional)
  • USB 2.0 Low Speed contact interface (optional)
  • EEPROM data retention time: 20 years minimum
  • JavaCard 2.2.1
  • GlobalPlatform Card Specification 2.1.1
  • VISA GlobalPlatform Card Implementation Requirements Configuration 3
  • Backward compatibility to VISA GlobalPlatform 2.0.1 on application level
  • EMV 4.1 Integrated Circuit Card Specification for Payment Systems compliant
This card can be tailored to your needs by adding Java applets, RFID chips or magnetic stripes.

CrypToken MX2048-JCOP USB Token

The Marx CrypToken MX2048-JCOP is a USB token with a JCOP chip.

The CrypToken supports CCID. This ensures maximum compatibility across platforms.

With its 72 Kbyte of EEPROM it has the largest amount of EEPROM available on a USB token.

The Marx USB token is made of STEEL instead of plastic. The metal designer case shields against radiation, external interception, dust and water. It is the smallest USB token on the market available today allowing end users to easily include the Marx USB token on their key ring.

The Marx CrypToken USB token is produced in the European Union, and certified according to Common Criteria.

Neowave Weneo Token

Neowave Weneo Smart Objects are portable and personal objects with all the smart card security and functions included. In addition, they feature the direct PC & Web connectivity thanks to their USB interface and offer a standard RFID contactless interface.

The combination of a contact and contactless JCOP smart card chip, flash memory, and physical access technology in USB key form factor open up a lot of possibilities for strong authentication, VPN, encryption, digital signing using certificates, mass storage and RFID services (physical access, time attendance, E-purse,...) .

Mobile Security Card microSD

The Mobile Security Card is a standard flash memory mass storage card supplemented with an additional secure element, providing enterprises and their mobile workforce with functionality for security operations such as PKI key management or key generation.

The Mobile Secure Card is supported by the major mobile platforms such as Windows Mobile, BlackBerry Device Software, Symbian OS, Android and Linux. Additionally, the Mobile Security Card can be used in standard Windows and Linux environments.
